Case Study. Panel
Radioworks Auckland
Radioworks’ broadcasting studios for The Edge radio station in Ponsonby were due for a makeover. The studios needed an interior finish that would not only look good, but provide high-performance noise control too. Architect Kelly McCardle from Warren and Mahoney chose Autex Quietspace® Panel 50mm, finished with Quietspace® Acoustic Fabric, for its outstanding sound absorption properties and ease of installation.
Effective noise control and easy installation
Designed to absorb 100% of reverberated noise, Quietspace Panel 50mm was the ideal choice for the studios and was used on both the walls and ceilings. It was delivered to Radioworks pre-finished with Quietspace Acoustic Fabric, providing a soft, attractive surface finish.
The Quietspace Panel was cut on-site where necessary and direct-fixed to the Gib substrate, making it much easier to install than the previous fabric-wrapped batten system.
Stylish design and custom detailing
With an extensive colour range of Quietspace Acoustic Fabric to choose from, Kelly was able to select contemporary colours that fit with the Edge brand. She also chose contrasting Quietspace Workstation to use as an acoustic wall surface and pin board elsewhere in the offices.
While Quietspace Panel is designed to be used without framing, this project lent itself to the use of some smart finishing detail. Autex worked closely with Radioworks to develop custom-finished extruded aluminium framing, powder-coated the same colour as the fabric panels.
Positive outcome for architect and client
“It was great to be able to have Autex work directly with my client to provide design and product solutions,” says Kelly. “I’m very happy with the overall outcome and performance of the new Quietspace products.”
Radioworks has also been impressed with the acoustic properties of Quietspace Panel and is now rolling it out in re-fits of its studios throughout New Zealand.
