Case Study. Avondale

Bayfield School

When designing two new classrooms for Bayfield School in Herne Bay, architect Brian Trubovich knew from long experience that education is one of the very toughest environments for floor coverings. He chose Autex Avondale carpet for its comfort, durability and ease of maintenance, as well as for the design scope it offered him.

Standing up to classroom wear and tear

Like any primary school, Bayfield needed a classroom carpet that would stand up to the rigours of the school environment and continue to look good for years to come. Avondale was an ideal choice, its closed-cell polypropylene fibre making it easy to clean and resistant to moisture and staining. It has a smart fine loop pile look and because it is needle-punched rather than woven, it won’t zip or fray.

“Avondale is a perfect classroom carpet,” says Brian. “It’s extremely hardwearing, comfortable for children to sit on and it won’t zip or run if the kids pull at it.”

Design flexibility and colour choice

Avondale’s non-fray construction also allowed Brian to create cut-in entrance mats, made from Autex heavy-duty ribbed carpet Decord and designed to clean kids’ shoes as they enter the classroom.

In both classrooms, Brian combined Avondale carpet with Autex acoustic wall covering Composition®, designed to significantly reduce reverberated classroom noise. With a wide range of colours to choose from in both the Avondale and Composition ranges, he had plenty of scope to mix brights and neutrals to create the look he wanted.

The result is a warm, inviting, child-friendly environment, ideal for both teaching and learning.
