Where Old Meets New, Seamlessly
The challenges of designing and managing a refit within a Heritage Building can be significant. Jose Gutierrez had a vision to make the most of the heritage aspects while incorporating modern functionality.
This was a fit-out for a private office within the 1920’s Heritage Building in Auckland’s CBD. The brief was to create a clean, simple and elegant space that also has some seriousness about it. The aim was to retain the openness and character of the existing space but ensure functionality as a working office.
With a desire to retain the concrete finish to the floor and walls there was potential for excessive reverberated noise. Jose worked with Autex to evaluate the extent of the problem, and to work through the potential solutions.
With a brief to keep the interior clean and simple, the solution needed to seamlessly fit the overall feel without detracting from the heritage aspects. Autex Quietspace® Panels were the perfect solution. Fixed floating from the ceiling with a custom timber bracket, the Quietspace® Panels eliminated the unwanted reverberated noise and delivered the desired clean uncluttered look.
The Panels were left ‘nude’ white and untrimmed to blend in with the ceiling and create a very subtle feature. The Panels also helped to hide some of the overhead services and ducting creating a clean uncluttered space where the heritage features remain as the centrepiece.
The material palette was kept to a minimum – using reconstituted walnut veneer on all the bespoke cabinetry. The central unit divides the meeting and workspace but also works as a sculptural piece within the space. There is also a counter top that stretches the length of the space doubling as storage and a functional worktop.
