Case Study. Composition
Leapfrogs Early Childhood Centre
New daycare centre Leapfrogs in Henderson was purpose-designed as a comfortable, inviting environment for children and teachers. Designer Michelle Pratt chose Autex Composition® as an interior wall covering for its excellent acoustic properties, its good range of colour choices and its environmentally-friendly profile.
Quieter, more comfortable playrooms
Early childhood centres are typically high-frequency noise environments. To make the Leapfrogs indoor play areas quieter and more comfortable, Michelle specified that the interior walls be lined with Composition, proven to absorb around 40% of reverberated noise.
“Composition softens up children’s noise and significantly improves the acoustics of this kind of environment,” says Michelle, who uses the product widely in her work with classroom and playroom interiors. “It also helps protect walls from everyday wear and tear such as knocks and pin damage, so centres save on the repair costs associated with plastered walls.”
Attractive finish and handy display surface
Finished with soft, easy-to-clean polyester fabric Vertiface®, Composition gives the playrooms a warm, comfortable ambience. Its pin- and hook-and-loop-receptive surface also allows it to be used as a display surface for posters and children’s artwork.
Michelle chose a lime-green wall finish to reflect the Leapfrogs brand and teamed it up with long-lasting Autex Avondale carpet, also ideal for an early education environment.
Safe and eco-friendly acoustic option
Composition had the added advantage for Leapfrogs of being a safe and environmentally-friendly acoustic solution. Because it is made from 100% polyester, Composition is free from the chemical binders and laminates of traditional acoustic products and contributes to safer air quality in the childcare environment.
Composition is also naturally fire retardant, contributing to Leapfrogs’ good fire safety ratings. It contains a high percentage of recycled PET plastic and will be fully recyclable at the end of its life.
